During fiscal year 2002 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled 393 different consumer products representing about 50 million production units that either violated mandatory safety standards or presented a significant risk of injury.

- Children's Toys
- Propane Heaters
- Lighting Fixtures
- Bike Brake Rotors

- Rocking Chairs
- Wet/Dry Vacuums
- Snowmobiles
- Lawn Tractors
- Weed/Brush Cutters

CPSC also reported that in 2002 consumer products caused 4639 deaths and over 14 million injuries serious enough to require an emergency room visit. These injuries cost $339 Billion including medical, work losses and product liability costs.
