Product Safety Recalls
During fiscal year 2007 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
recalled 472 different consumer products representing about 110 million production
units that either violated mandatory safety standards or presented a significant
risk of injury. This was the largest number of voluntary recalls in the last 10 years.
Recent Products That Have Been Recalled:
- Lighters
- Children's Toys
- Propane Heaters
- Mattresses
- Magnetic play sets

- Children's jewelry
- ATVs
- Portable generators
- Fireworks

CPSC also reported that in recent years there was an annual average of about
26,000 deaths and 33.6 million injuries related to, but not necessarily caused by,
consumer products under the Commission’s jurisdiction. These injuries, deaths and
their associated property damages cost the American public over $800 billion annually.
